Summary:
MITSUBISHI IS RECALLING 120,000 MY 2004-2006 ENDEAVOR PASSENGER VEHICLES. DURING VEHICLE USE, THE IGNITION KEY INTERLOCK CABLE (WHICH IS A COMPONENT OF THE INTERLOCK SYSTEM) MAY ALLOW THE INTERLOCKING CAM TO FALL FORWARD AND ALLOW THE IGNITION KEY TO BE REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH WHEN THE GEARSHIFT MECHANISM IS NOT IN THE PARK POSITION.

Consequence:
IF THE DRIVER DOES NOT SHIFT TO PARK BEFORE REMOVING THE KEY AND FAILS TO ENGAGE THE PARKING BRAKE, THE VEHICLE COULD ROLL AND A CRASH COULD OCCUR.

Remedy:
DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND CORRECT THESE VEHICLES FOR THE REPORTED CONDITION. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT YET PROVIDED A REMEDY OR OWNER NOTIFICATION SCHEDULE. OWNERS MAY CONTACT MITSUBISHI AT 1-800-222-0037.

Ofc. Dunn did call me back, we had a nice discussion, and he confirmed what you reported. I don’t know if I mentioned it to you or not, but I do have one other report on a 2006 Endeavor that has this same problem; you can take the key out in any gear intermittently. Given the age and small population of the vehicle, NHTSA has decided to open what we call a Preliminary Evaluation to study the problem further; this is a 4 month ‘look-see’. The process involves collecting information from the manufacturer to see if there is evidence of a wide spread problem, in which case we may ask Mitsubishi to conduct a recall, or we may decide that no action is required on their part at this time. This will be conducted under investigation ID PE08-006 - you can visit our website (http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov ) to learn more, or feel free to contact me if you want. As part of the process, NHTSA may want to look at your vehicle, and we would want to extend an invitation to the manufacturer to join us at their discretion. We would make every attempt to be as accommodating as possible. Is this something you would be willing to support?

Local Mitsubishi Dealership Sucks

I have decided that I hate the local Mitsubishi dealership and the Attorney General’s Office along with Mitsubishi Corporate. Apparently, they can’t make a dealership even though it’s a Mitsubishi dealership look at my car because they are independently freaking owned.

Even if Mitsubishi tells them to look at it and you feel they haven't looked at it properly, they are still in their own rights. All the dealership did was take it around the parking lot trying to pull the key out in various areas, to them that's correct. You idiots, you need to look at the cable mechanism as I told you it doesn't happen every single time - but I feel as the consumer once is more then enough. who wouldn't?

Now, what does that say for me? I have a brand new vehicle, bought from Blue Knob Auto Sales who under prices all local dealerships and we all know how the big fish HATE that, and no warranty. To bad that I have 40,000 miles and 4 years left to go on my null and void warranty.

However, I can drive to another Mitsubishi Dealership that is only 50 miles and one hour away (100 miles and 2 hours round trip) to see if they will look over the cable mechanism of my 2006 Endeavor. My response to that is SCREW YOU. Why should I have to take off work and pay the price in gas when there is no reason the local dealership can’t honor my warranty.

To think I bought this car because it was given great reviews and I wanted to feel safe in the winter time as I cart my butt and LM around to various areas of this snow filled region.

I may just may be getting rid of this SOB. It’s paid off so what should I care other then not wanting another car payment to deal with.

Defect, what makes you think that?

One might think this is a defect but so far Mitsubishi doesn't even though the 2007 Eclipse has been recalled for this same reason. Where I stand on the issue right now, I left the local dealership with the words of - You will be hearing from Mitsubishi Corporate and my attorney by the end of the week.

You are not dealing with some idiot girl and I'm sick of guys thinking that girls have no clue what we are talking about when in a bodyshop. I have again, been doing insurance for 13 years, I know how this game is played.

I am one unhappy camper right now - and trust me I will get what I want which is my vehicle fixed due to a defect by the manufacturer.
